Telehealth (Virtual) Visits
Medical Associates Health Plan Members:
MAHP is pleased to help safeguard your health during this continuing COVID-19 pandemic through access to Telehealth (Virtual) visits with In-Plan Practitioners.
Our goal is to provide the options that will work best for YOU.
Choose between in-person or telehealth visits. No matter which is right for you, coverage for In-Plan care provided to Members of our Commercial Plans will be the same.
For beneficiaries covered by an MAHP Medicare Cost Plan, telehealth services will be covered pursuant to Medicare guidelines for the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
Who are eligible Telehealth Practitioners?
Eligible Practitioners include Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Certified Nurse Midwives. (Other practitioners, such as certified nurse anesthetists, license clinical social workers, clinical psychologists, and registered dietitians or nutrition professionals may also furnish services within their scope of practice).
What Telehealth Services are covered?
All medically necessary and clinically-appropriate telehealth (virtual) visits will be covered.
- For Members of MAHP Commercial Plans, eligible telehealth services will include all video, electronic or telephonic methods. Telehealth visits through real-time, interactive audio and visual communication are encouraged, if possible. We understand, however, that not everyone has the technology for this. Therefore, telephone (audio only), online patient portal, or secure e-mail or messaging will be reimbursed when delivered in accordance with accepted health care practices and standards.
- For Medicare beneficiaries, CMS currently defines eligible telehealth under the Families First Act as:
- (i) interactive, real-time audio and video telecommunications;
- (ii) brief, virtual check-ins via telephone or other device; and
- (iii) e-visits through an online patient portal.
Does Cost Sharing Apply for Telehealth Services?
MAHP waived cost sharing for services received through telehealth when provider offices were closed and in-person care was restricted, but this waiver has expired. Members of our Commercial Plans may elect to receive care from In-Network Health Care Practitioners either in person or via telehealth, with identical benefits and standard cost share.
To learn more about the availability of telehealth services, please contact your In-Network Practitioner.
